"Kitty's owners have brought her a surprise. It's big, it's stinky, and it drools, but what the heck is it? Kitty thinks it's a ... dog. Ack! The neighborhood cats are convinced it's another cat and enter it in the Kitty Olympics. But despite its kitty-like talents, we all know that it's really ... a baby!" -- (p.4) of cover.

Kirkus (Kirkus)
In Bad Kitty's return, she attempts to answer one critical question: "What the heck is that thing?" In the beginning was Kitty. She was alone, and she liked it that way. Dark times arrived with the stinky, leaking, omnipresent Puppy; Kitty reconciled herself to that travesty. But after Kitty and Puppy spend a brief and ill-advised time in the guardianship of Uncle Murray, IT comes home with the humans. It plays, it stinks, it drools; Kitty is sure it's a dog. When all her friends come over for a special round of Pussycat Olympics, they conclude IT is a New Kitty. (A Bad Kitty Screaming Temper Tantrum ensues). Will Bad Kitty have a change of heart once she learns the origins of the family's new arrival? Bruel's fourth long-form tale of Bad Kitty (Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray , 2010, etc.) offers his trademark spastic black-and-white illustrations in full-bleed and spots with plenty of baby and cat sounds in dialogue bubbles (translated into English where necessary). Uncle Murray's Fun Facts return with occasional chapters on cat climbing and getting stuck in trees. There is plenty of slapstick, a few silly dream sequences and the obligatory gross bits. An appendix on cat training rounds out Bad Kitty's Baby encounter. Further proof that Bad Kitty can be good...especially in the eyes of her many fans. 2011, Neal Porter/Roaring Brook, 144 pp., $13.99. Category: Humor. The Bad Kitty series continues as the family introduces a baby to the distraught cat. Just as Bad Kitty was getting used to having a dog enter her comfortable solo world, a baby shows up. The young readers chapter book starts with Bad Kitty and Puppy terrorizing poor Uncle Murray, who is there to watch them while their owners pick up their new surprise. When the owners arrive home with the new baby, Bad Kitty and her friends are provoked to figure out exactly what it is. When they guess that the new item placed before them is a cat (instead of a baby), Bad Kitty, her friends, and the new baby are forced to participate in The Pussycat Olympics to celebrate the newbie s arrival. During The Pussycat Olympics, Bad Kitty realizes that not only does she have a lot in common with the new baby, but the baby may beat her at her own game. Bruel has done it again by creating a simple, yet hilarious Bad Kitty comedy. While each character may seem ridiculously stereotypical of their given name, the development of each character leaves the reader rolling on the floor laughing. The pictures also help you visualize the disaster that ensues when Bad Kitty tries to destroy something or someone. Highly recommended for reluctant readers. Category: Fiction. 2011, Square Fish, $6.99. Ages 7 to 11.
