George Galuschak (Kliatt)
Riiko Izawa wants a boyfriend, but the boys at her high school aren't interested. When a company called Kronos Heaven offers her a three-day promotional trial on their Nightly Series 01 model, Riiko thinks it's a joke but completes the form anyway. The next day, a naked guy in a box is delivered to her apartment, and Riiko isn't laughing. Night is tough, funny, charming and just jealous enough to be flattering. Oh, yes...since he was designed as a sex toy for bored housewives, he takes his clothes off at the drop of a hat. Night will do whatever Riiko wants, but Riiko doesn't want to have sex just yet. She wants a boyfriend. Luckily, that's fine with Night, because he's sensitive also. Yes, Night is the perfect boyfriend. Unfortunately, Riiko forgets about the three-day promotional trial, and Kronos Heaven shows up at her doorstep at one minute past 72 hours and demands money: one million dollars. Absolute Boyfriend is a smart, funny romantic comedy that will appeal to teenage girls. The art focuses on the characters, all of whom are attractive, with an emphasis on facial expressions. The plot moves quickly, and pulls you in from the start. Absolute Boyfriend contains comic book violence, semi-nudity and sexual situations (without the sex); this volume contains some frank, but non-graphic, talk about body parts. Recommended for high school manga collections. Category: Graphic Novels. KLIATT Codes: S--Recommended for senior high school students. 2006, Viz, 208p. illus., $8.99. Ages 15 to 18.
